During the war Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. An electrifying play.

Cast in Order of Appearance

From Grammy winners Steve Martin and Edie Brickell comes Bright Star, a musical that tells a tale of love and redemption set in the American South of the 1920s and 40s.

Inspired by a real event, Bright Star offers something very different from most of today’s musicals—an Americana musical with picking banjoes, barn dances and characters you root for even as fate seems determined to defeat them.

Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.
